Learn About the Renovation

Over the past year we’ve looked at all aspects of the current condition of the church. Through the efforts of the Renovation Committee and the two previous town meetings, we have identified and refined four groups of projects, developed a specific scope of work with contractors, and put together cost estimates for the entire renovation project.

Phase I: Interior (Ceiling, Walls, Floor and Pews)

Cleaning, sealing and painting the ceilings and walls, cleaning the wood panels, columns, and beams adding a coat of polyurethane. Installing additional insulation between the ceiling and roof. Replace pews, kneelers, carpeting, and move the baptistery adjacent to the entrance foyer with tile flooring that will make it a feature, but still allow movement through the area. Hardwood the sanctuary floor. Move the music ministry and sound equipment into the side space and create replacement seating for parishioners on each side of the sanctuary. This requires closing the church for several weeks in the summer.
Estimated Cost:
$130,000-$150,000.

Phase II: Fire Safety Improvements

The fire department has stipulated that we need to install sprinklers in the basement in order to continue to use it for gatherings of more than 50 people, including all of the CF classes. The parish also needs to install fire alarm systems in both the church and the student center. Estimated Cost: $80,000.

Phase III: Sanctuary/Exterior

Create in the back wall of the church a background for the crucifix by installing a clear glass window with two glazed back lit panels on either side. The back lower wall of the sanctuary will have a new set of back lit stained glass panels. A rendering of this design is on display at the entrance of our temporary worship space (STM center gym). This design will offer more light and brightness that fits the buildings architecture while creating a strong focus. The crucifix will be suspended from ceiling beams out in front of this glass addition. Re-caulk the outside stain glass windows, replace the cloudy exterior plexi-glass protection with new clear panels that will let in more light and provide insulation, repaint the outside building wood trim, and refinish the front wood doors.
Estimated
Cost: $75,000.

Phase IV: Heating Systems

The boilers for both the church and the student center are original equipment that is at the end of its life and is very inefficient, and need to be replaced.
Estimated
Cost: $75,000

Projected over all cost: $350,000.00 (approximate)
