Parish Mission
January 1, 2008

Dear Saint Thomas More Parishioners,

The beginning of a new year can be an opportunity to look forward to the future and reflect on the past. In 2007 we marked a significant parish anniversary – sixty years of faith, fellowship and service. It is important that we are aware of our past as it helps us understand our present and that understanding can help us prepare for the future.

So what about the future? I would like you to accept this invitation to attend our upcoming Parish Mission, “Jesus the Journey and the Journey’s End.” It will be conducted by my good friend, Father Kevin MacDonald.

Fr Kevin is a Redemptorist priest from Boston, ordained in 1991 and presently serving in Saint Lucia. His religious community has a long tradition of preaching parish missions, starting with their founder Saint Alphonsus Ligouri in 1732.

Fr. Kevin will introduce himself at our parish liturgies on the weekend of February 2nd and 3rd. The Mission begins on Monday, February 4th and concludes on Thursday, February 7th.  Ash Wednesday observance, Feb. 6th, will be included in our Mission week. A complete schedule of events is included in this mailing. Please keep it handy as a reminder and reference for specific times and programs.

An important goal of a parish mission is to reach out to those who feel separated from the Church or unwelcome. The most successful approach to reaching out to Catholics, who feel abandoned or marginalized, is a personal invitation to attend a mission. We ask you to extend an invitation to a friend or family member who may be interested in reconnecting with the St. Thomas More community or the Catholic Faith. Offer to bring them and sit with them so they feel included and welcomed. If a personal invitation from me would help, please contact me at 868-2666 and I will return your call after Jan. 21st.

Please join me in praying for the success of our 60th Anniversary Parish Mission and kindly make every effort to participate in this grace-filled experience with great hope in our future. I am,

Your Parish Priest,
Fr. Andrew W. Cryans

What is a Mission?
The season of Lent is a call to Conversion; a call to Renewal.
A parish Mission invites us to take time out of our busy schedules to grow closer to Jesus Christ.
There are extra opportunities to attend Mass, Adoration, Prayer; to reflect on the Scriptures; listen to challenging and inspiring talks; and to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Mission Schedule
Fr. Kevin MacDonald, our Mission Presenter, will preach at all weekend Masses; at the 12:10 Mass and Evening sessions.  Every session is different ~ something for everyone!

Mission Prayer
ST Thomas More Parish Mission Prayer
“Jesus, the Journey and the Journey’s End”

Loving and gracious God, quiet our minds and hearts, that we may be open to the gift of your truth.

Grant that our Mission may be:
a time of Grace for all,
a Time of growth for the young,
a Time of refreshment for the old,
a Time of renewal for families,
a Time of healing for the broken,
a Time of joy for the sorrowing,
a Time of challenge for the complacent,
a Time of forgiveness for the sinner,
a Time of strength for the holy,
a Time of homecoming for all who have been away.

Grant, most loving God, that our Mission may bring down your richest blessing on every member of our St. Thomas More Parish community as we celebrate 60 years of Faith, Fellowship and Service.

We pray through the intercession of Mary, our Mother, in the name of Christ Jesus, Who is our Journey and our Journey’s End. Amen.
